I graduated in Visual Semiotics, a course run by author and semiologist Umberto Eco, at the University of Bologna. My thesis concerned the body of work created by Maurizio Cattelan explored through the prism of Roland Barthes' theories.
My professional experience started in 2011. Now my work takes me throughout Europe. My passion for theatre and my breadth of experience has given me the opportunity to photograph the shows not only of renowned international artists, Bob Wilson, Jan Fabre, Sasha Waltz, Angélica Liddell, Oskaras Korsunovas, Cassils, but also others who are at the start of their careers.
My collaboration with Romeo Castellucci and Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio began in 2011 with On the Concept of the Face, Regarding the Son of God.
Since 2013, I have been documenting the annual Spill Festival of Performance for The Pacitti Company in the United Kingdom, in addition to other festivals in Italy.
In 2018 I was invited by the director Antonio Latella to teach the Masterclass of photography at the Venice Biennale.
My creative practice reflects my interest in how imagery tells stories, be that through portraiture or the documentation of events and exhibitions. It is the field of performing arts, however, that I find most expressive in my search for a heightened iconic. Theatre is a very powerful form because it is very close to real life, and its representation of the symbolic provides the framework for my personal space in questioning meaning.
Sono laureato in Semiotica Visiva al corso di laurea in Scienze della Comunicazione di Bologna, diretta al tempo da Umberto Eco. La mia tesi ha analizzato l'opera dell’artista Maurizio Cattelan attraverso le teorie di Roland Barthes.
Le mie prime esperienze professionali risalgono al 2011. Attualmente mi muovo tra l'Italia e l'Europa. La passione che ho per il teatro e l’esperienza di questi anni, mi hanno dato la possibilità di fotografare non solo le opere di alcuni dei più importanti artisti della scena internazionale, Bob Wilson, Jan Fabre, Sasha Waltz, Angélica Liddell, Oskaras Korsunovas, Cassils, ma anche quelle di artisti emergenti.
La collaborazione con Romeo Castellucci e la Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio è iniziata nel 2011 con Sul concetto di Volto nel Figlio di Dio.
Dal 2013 sono il fotografo ufficiale di Spill Festival of Performance, organizzato dalla Pacitti Company in Inghilterra e di altri festival in Italia.
Nel 2018 sono stato invitato dal direttore Antonio Latella a tenere la Masterclass di Fotografia alla Biennale di Venezia.
La mia ricerca visiva sull’immagine passa attraverso la costruzione di storie, ritratti, documentazione di eventi, mostre. Le arti performative restano, tuttavia, il campo privilegiato per il mio studio su un iconico amplificato. Il teatro è infatti la forma d’arte più vicina alla vita e la sua rappresentazione del simbolico trasforma il rettangolo dell’inquadratura nel mio spazio d’indagine sulla vita.
